Hello, my name is Mike Troy. I’m a 32 year old professional jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist residing in Brooklyn, New York. I am primarily a saxophonist, but also double proficiently on trumpet and drums. I have performed professionally for 12 years in NYC and internationally with a host of world class musicians. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in music performance from SUNY Purchase where I attended on Scholarship. I have a decade of music education experience primarily through private lesson study, where I work on jazz vocabulary, music fundamentals, sound production, and other topics suited for all levels of the student’s ability ranging from beginner to advanced.
Performance Prestige: I have had the privilege of performing professionally with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world, including Roy Hargrove, Obed Calvaire, Russell Hall, Grammy award winning Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Emmet Cohen, Evan Sherman, Aaron Burnett, Joe Magnarelli, ELEW, Charles Blenzig, Immanuel Wilkins, Micah Thomas, Jonathan Barber, Dave Kikoski, Frank Lacy, Peter Washington, Mark Johnson, Adam Nussbaum, Gene Perla, Kush Abadey, Josh Evans, Jerry Weldon, Patrick Bartley, Godwin Louis, Julius Rodriguez, Kiyoshi Kitagawa, and many others.
Levels/Ages: I teach all levels and ages for saxophone study. For drums and trumpet, I teach all levels for jazz and conceptual study, as well as general lessons for beginner/intermediate students on said instruments.
Topics of Study: Ear training, jazz improvisation, vocabulary development, intonation control, breath and air support, sight-reading, technique, rudiments and fundamentals, articulation, rhythm harmony and melody development, and much more.

Rates: My fee is $85 per hour lesson. I can travel to you for in person lessons, with an additional commute fee TBD depending on the location.
Virtual lessons are preferred, via Skype Zoom or WhatsApp.
