Help us investigate how transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can affect learning and decision-making. Join an innovative and exciting research study looking to develop new methods to influence learning and decision-making skills by changing how the brain works without surgery. Dr. Kahnt and his team will examine how specific TMS brain stimulations can affect how people perform tasks. They will test learning and decision-making skills while observing the changes in brain activity when undergoing these tasks. Findings from this study will help us determine if these new methods can effectively change specific cognitive functions by impacting brain activity in regions responsible for learning and decision-making. These methods could help us discover new and better therapies for those with substance use disorders. To enroll, you must be between 18 and 45 years old and willing to travel to Baltimore for the study. You may be asked to come in for up to 8 clinic visits, which will include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), TMS, and behavioral tasks and assessments involving sight, hearing, smell, or taste. You will also be asked to avoid drinking alcohol or using drugs or other illegal substances 24 hours before a study visit and fast for 1-4 hours before each visit. You can get $20-$50 per hour for your participation + travel. Study visits will take place at the National Institutes of Drug Abuse clinics at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus in Baltimore, MD.
