The National Institutes on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is recruiting heavy drinkers for a study to evaluate the safety of an investigational drug to treat alcohol associated liver damage.
You may qualify if:
You are between the ages of 21 and 65 years
You drink more than 20 alcoholic drinks per week
You can come to the NIH clinical center for weekly outpatient visits for 2 months
You are NOT seeking treatment for an alcohol-related condition
You are NOT participating in another study involving a drug treatment
You are NOT pregnant or breastfeeding
During the study, you will:
Participate in 7 outpatient visits over 8 weeks
Complete questionnaires, have blood drawn and receive the study drug (or placebo)
Receive optional liver MRI, FibroScan, and doppler/ultrasound
Receive compensation for your participation
The NIH Clinical Center is in Bethesda, MD, on the Metro red line (Medical Center stop).
