Kids in a New Groove (KING Mentoring) is seeking volunteer music mentors to provide free, weekly one-on-one music lessons to youth ages 5 and up who have experience with the child welfare system in Central Texas.
We believe that consistent, creative mentorship can transform lives. You don’t need to be a professional musician—just someone who’s reliable, encouraging, and ready to build a trusting relationship through music.
As a KING Music Mentor, you’ll:
Provide weekly private lessons to one student at their home or placement
Focus on connection, confidence-building, and creativity
Help your student set and work toward their own musical goals
To volunteer, you must:
Be 21 or older
Live in or near Travis, Williamson, Hays, or Bastrop County
Have a reliable vehicle and pass a background check
Complete an interview and training
Commit to mentoring for one year
We provide training, support, and all instruments and materials needed for your mentee. A consistent mentor can make all the difference—your time and talent can help a youth feel seen, supported, and empowered.
We have mentees waiting to be matched with a music mentor in Austin, Cedar Park, Elgin, Dripping Springs, Hutto, Belton, Killeen, and Jarrell.
