Individuals may be compensated up to $335 over a one year study, paid at 5 separate time points
People who currently smoke 5+ cigarettes per day are needed for a research study. By taking part, you would help us understand how smoking attitudes and behaviors about smoking change over time in couples who smoke. This information could help us learn how to help couples who are ready to quit smoking. You may qualify for the Smoking in Couples study if you: *Currently smoke at least 5 cigarettes per most days of the week *Live with your romantic partner who also smokes 5+ cigarettes a day most days of the week *Neither you nor your partner are currently pregnant *Neither you nor your partner use e-cigarettes more than half of the days in a week *neither you nor your partner use any form of marijuana more than half of the days in a week This study involves: -Completing a questionnaire about your relationship and smoking behaviors & attitudes. -Completing 1 initial baseline session, and 4 follow-ups (1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after baseline). All sessions will be held on Zoom. -An optional online program to learn about quitting smoking -Receiving nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) Participants will be compensated by check based on their time and effort. Participants receive one payment after the Baseline (survey + video conference) and another after each Follow-up (survey + video conference) sessions are complete.
