When considering hiring a pet sitter, make sure that they are bonded and insured. Don't just ask and check it off the list. Make sure to see it in writing. You may think caring for pets is something anyone can do and why does it matter if they have insurance. Well because mistakes can happen to anyone. If you hire just anyone, someone who doesn't care enough to be insured, then you might find yourself flipping the bill for their mistakes because they can't afford to pay out what insured can if something happens.
Make sure that the pet sitter you choose has a back up person that works for their company. If not, if they get sick or injured and are in the middle of a pet sitting service, it is a huge liability for a new company to take over and not be able to meet the client if they are already away. I know our company will never do that.
