Dr. Ross, a scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), is leading a research study to develop, evaluate, and refine computer-based thinking tasks. These tasks will help scientists better understand the decision-making process. The tasks may be used in future studies with functional MRI (fMRI) scans, and the findings may contribute to more effective treatments for individuals with substance use disorders. Eligible participants are adults ages 18–65 who use cocaine or nicotine (via smoking or vaping). Participation involves a screening visit, providing informed consent, completing a brief medical assessment, and performing a decision-making task that requires pressing a button while viewing and rating pictures on a computer. The study includes up to two clinic visits, each lasting 1-2 hours, at the NIDA Biomedical Research Center in Baltimore. Remote participation is an option for nicotine users. You will receive $20 per hour, plus up to $25 extra for additional tasks completed. Local transportation will be provided or reimbursed (up to 50 miles).
