Dr. Lorenzo Leggio, a physician- scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), has launched a new screening protocol to enroll participants in research on alcohol and drug use, addiction, and abstinence and build a participant registry for future studies. The protocol is open to adults 18 and older who can speak, read, and write in English. It is open to participants with or without substance use disorder (SUD), including nicotine, alcohol, vapes, or marijuana. Participation will require an outpatient visit to the NIDA research clinic at the Biomedical Research Center in Baltimore, MD. Your visit may last up to eight hours and include the following: • Physical exam, medical exam, and history. • Blood draws and urinalysis. • Mental health evaluation, cognitive assessments, and questionnaires about drug, alcohol, and nicotine use and withdrawal. • Nutritional screening, smell tests, and breathalyzers. • ECGs and a simulated MRI session.
