Are you a teenager between 13 and 18 years old in high school? You may qualify for a paid research study at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and get paid for your time and travel. Dr. Salmeron is enrolling both vaping & non-vaping teens in a research study to better understand the brains of those who vape nicotine and those who do not vape or smoke using MRI imaging. A type of medical imaging that uses strong magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the inside of the body. Vaping teens: If you vape, you will be asked to come in for about 15 visits, where you will have images taken of your brain using an MRI (it’s like a camera for inside your body!). You will also have nine weekly mindfulness-based trainings and be asked questions about how you think and feel. You need to own a phone or have access to one during the study, and you can get up to $280 for taking part in the study plus travel. Non-vaping teens: And if you're a teen who's never vaped or smoked, you can also enroll! You will have one or two visits, have an MRI (image of your brain), answer some questions, and be asked to complete tasks measuring your thinking skills. You'll get up to $135 for finishing the study plus travel. Sounds interesting? You could help make a big difference and get paid for your time too! The study will take place at our Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus in Baltimore, MD. If you are interested, visit https://researchstudies.nida.nih.gov/1855s/ for the online survey or call 667-312-5930 to speak with one of our team members for more information. If you are under age 18, you will need your parent or guardian’s consent to join our study. Spread the Word!
