Gibson "SG Deluxe" 1972 - $3,100 Pocatello, Idaho

condition: good

make / manufacturer: Gibson

model name / number: SG Deluxe

We have a 1972 Gibson "SG" Deluxe/Standard for sale with case. This guitar was considered a "transitional" model and the factory used parts from both the deluxe and standard models. The back of the headstock is stamped "Made in USA". The body is constructed of Beveled, solid Honduran Mahogany. The neck is 3-pc laminated Honduran Mahogany. The fretboard is Indian Rosewood with Mother of Pearl small block inlays and a 12" radius. The guitar is equipped with Gibson/Grover tuners as well as the optional Gibson "horseshoe " vibrato arm and tail piece. The two Gibson humbucking pickups also appear to be original to this guitar. The neck joins the body at the 18th fret with a zero degree angle, and the nut is narrow. We have not opened the cover in the back to verify wiring and we have not removed the pick up covers. There is no damage to this guitar other than some light scratches on the back of the neck, light wear to the top of the headstock, and evidence of a decal or sticker of some kind that was on the upper bout as shown in the pictures. It is possible that this decal marking could be buffed out but we did not attempt that procedure. The small sized "Angel Wing" pick guard is unusual for SG's but we have seen it on some late 1972 models. It may or may not be original to this guitar but the body does not show any evidence of modifications. It does have a thin scratch right below the bridge pick up. The action is low, very playable, and the frets are showing some light wear with plenty of life left. The electronics sound clean and function as intended. The binding is intact and has turned a warm yellow with the 50 years of aging on this vintage instrument. You can find some more info on this guitar at this link: https://www.everythingsg.com/threads/help-me-date-this-70-72-gibson-sg-standard.37018/page-2 The case is probably original and has some cosmetic wear. All latches and hinges function correctly and the interior looks new. The guitar will be shipped (if necessary) in the case with the strings relaxed. The neck will be well padded inside the case and boxed with additional padding around the outside of the case. It will be shipped insured via Federal Express to your location anywhere in the lower 48 United States. Shipping costs will be $150 to be added to the purchase price and paid by buyer. Total price must be paid with certified funds through Venmo and guitar WILL NOT be shipped until those funds have cleared and are deposited in our account. If desired to ship outside of the continental U.S. , the buyer must make arrangements with us before purchasing. The guitar and case may be picked up locally in southeast Idaho to save shipping charges. $3100.00 CASH ONLY will be accepted for a local pickup. Virus transmission prevention procedures and measures will be required. All in person meetings will take place in a safe, public place such as a court house or retail business parking lot covered by video cameras. These steps are to insure your protection as well as ours. Pictures on request. Thanks for looking. This item is sold As-Described with no returns.
