The nights are drawing in, the temperature is beginning to drop, your friends have stopped throwing last-minute barbecues, and you dread the thought of having to put the heating on soon. Summer is almost coming to an end. However, it doesn’t all have to be doom and gloom. If you’re one of the few not heading away to Electric Picnic this weekend, why not invite your nearest and dearest over for a DIY cocktail evening to close out the summer with a bang?

Go mad for a Manhattan

Create something strong and bitter – with a cherry on top – for your friends with a Manhattan cocktail.

50ml bourbon
25ml sweet vermouth
Dash of bitters

Serve in a beautiful cocktail glass from the likes of Nisbets, add lots of ice and garnish with orange zest and a maraschino cherry.

Did somebody say Margaritas?

Sweet, salty, bitter and sour – Margaritas are quite a combination.

A cup full of ice
50ml tequila
25ml lime juice
20ml triple sec

Top tip: Rub a wedge of lime along the rim of the tumbler before dipping it into some salt so that the entire rim is covered.

Keep it classic with a Mojito

You can never go wrong with a Mojito. This traditional Cuban cocktail is loved by many, meaning that it will go down a treat at any party.

60ml white rum
Juice of one lime
1tsp granulated sugar
Handful of mint leaves
Soda water, to taste

After you have mixed the lime juice, sugar and mint leaves in a jug, add some ice before pouring over the rum. Give it a good stir before topping up with the soda water. Then enjoy!

Get ready for autumn with a Pumpkin Martini

A firm favourite for autumn, this smooth and sweet option means that you’ll also get your pumpkin fix – without a Pumpkin Spice Latte in sight.

60ml vanilla vodka
30ml pumpkin liqueur
30ml cream liqueur
A cup full of ice

Top tip: To make it extra special, why not frost the rim of the glass with sugar and cinnamon?

Serve it the way Old Fashioned way

Another classic, this cocktail is the perfect balance of strong and sweet – the ideal addition to your list for your end of summer event.

50ml bourbon or rye whiskey
5ml sugar syrup
2-3 dashes bitters
Orange or lemon zest to garnish

Served with several large ice cubes, this one won’t disappoint.

See the end of summer off with a bang and make it a night to remember with the cocktails above!
