While, in our minds, summer means longer, brighter evenings, in reality, there’s always the threat of rain and cold sneaking in and ruining our plans for an evening al fresco. Luckily, during the summer months, there are always a string of new releases in the cinema to help ward off the boredom when the sun decides to take the night off.

maven46 has rounded up some of the movies we’re excited for, mainly because of how seriously stylish they look in the sneak peeks we’ve seen so far. So, consider your future trips to the cinema as some widescreen shopping inspiration.

My Cousin Rachel

Rachel Weisz plays the title character, a woman with mysterious intentions when it comes to her extended family. Set in the 1800s, it’s a tale full of hasty marriages and suspicious deaths, inheritance and deception – and of course, corsets. While we might not be ready to rock the full Victorian look, we definitely love all the black lace for a dramatic effect on those less than sunny days.

Rough Night

Not only are we excited to see Scarlett Johansson back on our screens, we also can’t wait to see what cringe-worthy comedy ensues based on the title’s suggestion. We’ve all had the worst night out but something tells us this mix of funny women (Kate McKinnon, Zoë Kravitz) is going to trump that. Also, plenty of night out wardrobe inspiration – Scarlett reminds us not to forget about the classic halter dress when it comes to glamming it up for the night.

The Beguiled

Another one bringing us back in time is The Beguiled, director Sofia Coppola’s take on the 1971 version. Colin Farrell is the wounded soldier who must recuperate in a girl’s boarding school. Cue sexual tension and flirtations to boot. Such drama has us lusting after wardrobe of crisp white shirts and full skirts – all the better to help us swoosh around dramatically.

Atomic Blonde

Yes, a hair shade, but in this case also a deadly assassin in the form of Charlize Theron. Sent into 1989 Berlin, Theron must hunt down a list of double agents – and naturally, she manages to be a complete badass while looking achingly stylish. We’ll be channelling our inner espionage chic with dark tones, minimalist shaping, and of course sunglasses at all times.

Ingrid Goes West

This indie film comes courtesy of director Matt Spicer and gives a spooky viewpoint on today’s Instagram obsession. Aubrey Plaza plays Ingrid, a young woman who decides to drop everything and travel to Los Angeles to track down her favourite “influencer”. As Ingrid literally goes west, we get a dose of laid-back LA style – something we’re quite happy to become obsessed with.
