Were you one of the lucky ladies who joined us at the maven46 Fashion Glossary & Beauty Brunch on Saturday? It was a busy weekend for maven46 as we hosted our very first event which was held in the beautifully intimate surroundings of Peacock Green on Hatch Street. We kicked the morning off with an introduction from maven46 Editor and co-founder, Tanya Grimson, who gave our guests a run through of who we are and what we do at maven46, followed by the low down on what guests could expect from the morning.
Next up fashion journalist and author of ‘The Happy Closet’, Annmarie O’Connor took to the stage with an in depth run through of spring’s hottest trends and how to incorporate them into your everyday wear. Ever found yourself drowning in a sea of trends, not knowing which ones to choose, how to wear them or whether they’ll even work for you? Annmarie had the answers to all our woes. She realises the importance of basics within your wardrobe, but advocates trying out a trend or two each season to update your look. She also suggests trying to introduce trends bit by bit in order to not overdo it. Don’t go for trends that don’t suit your personal style, and if fashion’s flavour of the month just doesn’t work with your body shape, Annmarie’s advice is to just forget about it. Trends come and go, there is no way you can try to tackle every single one. One metaphor the crowd seemed to love was when Annmarie described “trends as the kamasutra, and basics as the missionary position” while recommending the use of trends to try to spice up your wardrobe. Our guests were tweeting their favourite hints and tips right the way through the event- #maven46brunch was even trending on Twitter by the end of the event!
As our speakers filled the room with their first class knowledge on all things fashion and beauty, the brilliant staff at Peacock Green ensured our guests were eating and drinking their way through the morning in style. Tables were filled with an array of sweet treats, coffee, tea and more… Of course, no brunch is complete without Prosecco. Ours was served in the most beautiful vintage tea sets from SocialBee. With a set-up so Instagram-worthy it’s no wonder our guests took to the platform to share all of their favourite snaps from the day.
While our guests were enjoying their croissants, scones, and Croque Monsieur and mingling with each other, professional make-up artist and maven46 beauty writer, Sarah Jane Lanagan, took to the stage to set up for her beauty demonstration. Sarah Jane started off by going through the beauty trends that stole the show at the couture and ready-to-wear shows earlier this year. She then took two of these looks- “no make-up make-up” and “blue eyed girl”- and showed our audience how to recreate them at home. From strobing to cat-eye flicks, our guests got all of the secrets to ensure that they will be able to master their make-up this spring. The audience weren’t shy about asking questions and Sarah Jane was brilliant at answering them, this woman is like a beauty encyclopedia! From how to give your lipstick extra staying power, to highlighting and applying blush on temperamental Irish skin, Sarah Jane had all the answers.
The afternoon was concluded with a Q&A panel hosted by Tanya, who was joined by both Annmarie and Sarah Jane again to cover all the fashion and beauty questions our guests still had. It was here that a few of our lucky attendees got a chance to win some fantastic prizes. One lucky winner walked away with a hamper from Clarins worth over €300! Another bagged herself an overnight stay with dinner and drinks for two at the newly renovated Haddington Hotel in Dún Laoghaire. Last but not least, one lady received a voucher for Renew Aesthetics Clinic to use on any treatment of her choice.
But don’t worry, we made sure that there was something for everyone. All of our guests went home with amazing goody bags full of treats from Stella & Dot, Manley, David Marshall, Renew Aesthetics Clinic, Physicians Formula, Sleek Make-up, and some tasty Propercorn. I think it’s safe to say our guests were spoiled!
