Here’s Why We’re Shopping at Uniqlo This Season

The Japanese retailer has teamed up with JW Anderson for a brand new autumn/winter collection

When speaking about his past spring/summer collection with Uniqlo, JW Anderson said, in 2018, “Uniqlo has this fantastic thing where you can be yourself through the clothes.”

Unlike fellow retailers that operate in the same market, Uniqlo does not attempt to follow or replicate high fashion trends. Instead, it focuses on well-designed, seasonless basics — cosy knitwear, tailored trousers, all-weather outerwear — which anyone, anywhere, regardless of age or style, can incorporate into their wardrobe. These basics make up the core of JW Anderson’s fourth upcoming collection with the Japanese retailer.

Building upon the successes of his previous collections, Uniqlo announced that it would be teaming up with the Northern Irish designer yet again for autumn/winter 2019.

Launching on the 17th of October, the collaboration continues with a selection of everyday basics, updated with Anderson’s contemporary design twists.

Described as “British classics, designed for life today,” military parkas, checked wool blankets, fishermen’s jumpers, corduroy skirts and down jackets, amongst other iconic garments, have been reimagined through JW Anderson’s aesthetic but still remain recognisable as wardrobe staples.

Following the theme, The Great British Outdoors (which is also the name of the collection), the new line places emphasis on wardrobe classics that have endured for generations. It combines the signature bold and graphic design aesthetic of JW Anderson with Uniqlo’s excellence in fabrics, fit and functionality to create unique garments that are built to last for generations to come.
