Everyone Wore the Same Thing to the Emmys Last Night

Who ever said you can't wear pink and red together?

If last night’s Emmy Awards was an episode of Friends, it would be titled ‘The One Where They All Wore the Same Outfit.’

As television’s biggest stars arrived on the red carpet, one trend outshone all the rest: pink and red colour-blocked dresses. The playful colour combo was seen on not one, not two, but five celebrities who attended last night, including Taraji P. Henson who wore a Vera Wang design, Mandy Moore in Brandon Maxwell, and Zoe Kazan in Gucci. Coincidence? We think not.

Multiple designers made their case for the once forbidden colour combo this season so it should come as no surprise to see so many expertly clashing gowns at the annual TV celebration, including This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson’s puff-sleeved gúna which nails two trends in one.

Pink itself also looks set to be a massive trend once again, making countless appearances during the SS20 shows this past month. Sophie Turner, who attended alongside her Game of Thrones castmates one last time, chose to go with this instead, opting for a lighter, barely-there pink satin dress by Louis Vuitton, while Killing Eve star Sandra Oh showed up in a Pepto-Bismol pink Zac Posen design that Villanelle herself would be jealous of.

Outside the spectrum of pink, there was, of course, a handful of stars who eschewed colour in favour of darker shades; Emilia Clarke and Naomi Watts brought the drama, respectively, in a plunging dark green Valentino dress and gothic black gown courtesy of Dior, while Zendaya channelled Poison Ivy in custom Vera Wang. All in all, though, pink was the clear winner of the night.
