If you follow fashion stylist and Instagrammer Monikh’s style choices as closely as we do you will have eyed up the beautiful floral-print midi dress she wore earlier this month. Featuring long sleeves in free-flowing ivory silk patterned all over with red roses, the dress draped effortlessly over the London blogger’s 5’3 frame and had us all wondering where she had found such a magnificent piece.
The answer was Bernadette, a new ready-to-wear label based in Antwerp. Despite having only launched a year ago, the label has already found fans in the likes of Sandra Bullock, Lindsey Holland and Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, as well as being stocked by some of the biggest luxury retailers Net-a-Porter, Browns and, most recently, Selfridges and Mytheresa.
Founded by mother-and-daughter duo, Bernadette and Charlotte de Geyter, the label is hyper-romantic and feminine, crafting beautiful designs out of fine Italian silk. Cut in simple, elegant shapes that flatter the female body, their collections are defined by colourful floral prints that are designed and drawn in-house by daughter Charlotte.
Charlotte, who has a master of arts in fashion from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, initially came up with the idea for ‘Bernadette’ while in London, where she was, at the time, carrying out a six-month internship at Simone Rocha’s design studio. The label was born after a phone call with her mother, the label’s namesake and a former buyer for Ralph Lauren, who was immediately on board with the concept of launching a fashion brand with her daughter.
With a total of four collections since the launch in 2018, the latest of which includes a selection of midi skirts, camisoles and blouses in addition to the label’s signature dresses and robes, Bernadette champions the notion that age is just a number as both mother and daughter are regularly captured on the brand’s Instagram account wearing the same pieces. Where they tend to differ though is in the styling of each look. While Bernadette might team the Angelina dress with playful pink sliders, Charlotte is more at home in a pair of trainers or white ankle boots. Regardless, both women look equally beautiful, stylish and youthful showcasing their label’s own designs.

Together, the mother-daughter team has created a label that is contemporary and, at the same time, timeless; the combination of bold colours, delicate prints and boudoir-inspired silhouettes results in an alluring signature aesthetic that is unique to Bernadette but appealing to many; to a maximalist and a minimalist; to a modest dresser and a free-spirited one; to a mother and a daughter. “We want these clothes to be timeless and to last, and we want people to have colour in their lives.” Perfect for an upcoming wedding, Bernadette might just be your new go-to occasionwear label.
