What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

What to wear to a summer wedding occasionwear

It’s only the beginning of May but no doubt you’ve already received a slew of ‘save the dates’ and are mentally preparing yourself for a summer of festivities; wedding season is here — but what to wear?

A midi dress is the first port of call for a special occasion this season or, alternatively, a top and bottom combo is equally chic. To accommodate the warmer weather, look for pieces made from free-flowing silk and breathable linen cut in feminine silhouettes with ruffled detailing and puffball sleeves. When it comes to prints, florals are ubiquitous this summer, and every summer, so don’t feel guilty about dropping a little extra on the flowery dress of your dreams — trust us when we say you’re going to wear it again, and again. Alternatively, for a more seasonal approach, polka dots and exotic animal prints are key this season in favoured shades of yellow and orange. And if you must wear black, brighten things up with eye-catching accessories in rainbow shades.

Speaking of accessories, don’t be a wallflower. Opt for conversation-starter bags such as Cult Gaia’s bamboo clutch, a romantically-inclined beaded tote or an animal print wristlet for when you want to make shapes on the dancefloor. The footwear of choice? A slinky pair of strappy sandals, though, depending on location, consider swapping the stiletto for a chunkier heel to avoid sinking into any patches of grass, gravel or sand. And to top it all off, forget about fascinators and pompous hats you’ll begrudgingly wear once; this season, take your cues from the likes of Simone Rocha and Prada with decorative pearl hair slides and larger than life headbands.
