Has your latest Instagram scrolling session left you feeling somewhat nostalgic for bygone eras? Have you found yourself deep in the depths of a Google search, looking for Nineties style trainers and ‘It’ bags lifted straight out of the Noughties? Us too.
It would seem we’re not alone in this quest for throwback fashion as the latest Lyst Index, a quarterly data-based report on fashion’s most popular brands and products, shows. Coming in at number one as the most searched for, the most talked about and the most sought-after item of the season is the Dior ‘Saddle’ bag. The bag that was originally made famous by Carrie Bradshaw and Paris Hilton in the early ’00s is once again the bag on everyone’s shoulders (and Instagram).

After it was relaunched in July this year, online searches for the style spiked 957% in 48 hours, with thanks in part to 100 global influencers who posted an image of said bag on Instagram on the day of launch and worked up an appetite for Dior’s comeback bag.
The bag is accompanied by more nostalgia-inducing items such as Nike’s M2K Tekno sneaker which is ranked at number five on the list of “hottest women’s products” for this quarter. The uber chunky, retro style ‘dad’ trainer is a revamp of the brand’s 2002 Air Monarchs and has repeatedly sold out since launching in May, taking the reins from Fila’s Disruptor as the most popular ‘ugly’ shoe this season with more than 20,000 social media mentions over the past few months.
Continuing in the same vein are the Birkenstock ‘Madrid’ sandals at number three and Gucci’s bling-heavy Flashtrek trainers at number 8 which quite frankly epitomise the ‘ugly’ trend but it is for this very reason they have received so many hits on the internet. The trainers, which come with detachable jewels, are printed with a logo inspired by the typeface of Eighties video game company SEGA.
Throwing it back all the way to the ’90s is Off-White, the luxury streetwear label which, according to Lyst, is the most popular fashion brand right now. The brand’s Nineties-tastic logo belt seen on Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner et al, and a light wash denim jacket featured at number two and number six respectively. Meanwhile, Jonathan Simkhai’s lace-up skinny jeans which have been worn by both Hadid sisters landed at number four.

Staud and Ganni round off the list with slightly more contemporary finds. Though both labels are relatively new, they’ve already established a devoted fanbase with products that more often than not reach cult status and sell out time and time again, as is the case with Staud’s ‘Shirley’ bag at number 7 and Ganni’s ‘Dainty Georgette’ wrap skirt which even beat Réalisation Par’s leopard print skirt to the number 9 spot. Saint Laurent’s Lolita-style ‘Loulou’ sunglasses worn by Miley Cyrus and Salma Hayek complete the list at number 10.
