As the first of the four fashion weeks draws to a close, we’re taking look at the style and trends that were on display outside of the SS19 shows in New York this past week. Fashion’s finest descended on the Big Apple and, naturally, they pulled out all the stops. Fashion editors, models, buyers and influencers alike all donned their best looks and incorporated some of autumn/winter’s most coveted trends. The masses mixed summer style with more transitional autumn pieces as the weather demanded, offering up inspiration aplenty.

Even though on the runway, designers were showcasing their spring/summer collections, it is more often than not what goes on outside the shows that sets the trends for the upcoming season. Discover the trends that are heating up below and find some outfit inspiration for the new season.

Animal Print

Animal print is one of the biggest trends this season so, naturally, it was seen all over the streets of Manhattan this week. With snake print reigning supreme over leopard print, which comes as a surprise since Instagram has been flooded with leopard print recently, some went all out and wore animal print from top to bottom while others incorporated the trend through accessories.

Power Suits

An ode to the ’80s, power suits are in again for autumn/winter 2018 and checked, patterned and bold colours seem to be the trend du jour. Some even went as far as incorporating two big trends in one with a bold and daring leopard print suit.

Check, Check, Check

Check Mate! The pattern of the moment was everywhere this past week. Those who donned the geometrical print were not afraid of doubling up with many style-savvy women wearing full check suits while others opted for mixing multiple checks. We’re not hating the Clueless vibes this trend is giving us this season.

Pink

The colour of the season, if NYFW is anything to go by, is pink. The streets outside the shows were awash with varying hues of the preppy colour. But we’re not just talking about a pink shirt here and a pink skirt there; NYFW goers went all out in head to toe pink and we love it.
