From Victoria Beckham’s milestone show heralding ten years in fashion for the designer to Calvin Klein’s popcorn covered runway, there was plenty to behold at New York Fashion Week. But what trends can we expect to include in our wardrobe next season?
Here are five things we learned from the New York shows.
Blazers, T-shirts, your fancy new coat; the message this autumn is that leggings can and should be worn with everything. It’s less about athleisure and more about the skin-tight fit.
Animal fever is primed to take over as designers such as Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein and Tom Ford all took a walk on the wild side in their autumn collections. Leopard, cheetah, zebra and even tiger, if there’s one key buy next season, it’s animal print outerwear.
From bold, oversized shoulders to belt bags atop of baggy balloon trousers, the extravagance and excess of the opulent ’80s was in aplomb on the runway; Marc Jacobs delivered a sea of dramatic silhouettes that wouldn’t look far out of place in Grace Jones’ wardrobe while Tom Ford brought the glamour with lamé leggings and leather headbands.
If you thought you were done with pink, think again. Moving on from the millennial shade, it’s all about hot pink for autumn. Wear it head to toe or clash it like a pro à la Prabal Gurung.
Don’t sweat it if you find yourself lost in The Matrix next season as long leather coats courtesy of Neo were the outerwear of choice for many designers during the past week from Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang to Dion Lee.
