Another season, another wardrobe? Well, not quite. Despite the common feeling that in order to stay on trend we must replace our entire closet at the start of each new season, there really is no need. Investing in a few select pieces has the power to refresh your current wardrobe, transforming it from “so last season” to “so on trend“. So, although the Irish weather is predictably 100% Irish and by that very nature unpredictable, the one thing we can count on is adapting our wardrobe to ensure we stay stylish no matter what the summer may bring.
Of course, we’re not saying to ditch your last season buys completely. In fact, we’re still reaching for some of our favourites from last year but if you’re looking to give your wardrobe a fresh update for 2017, these are the pieces to note.
The reverent slip dress is stepping into the shade this summer, in light of our reignited love of the tea dress. A printed dress like this will not only see you through the current festival season but also for years to come. Think Kate Moss for Topshop circa 2007. We obsessed over her range of floral mini dresses then and we’re still searching for them on eBay now.
Our beloved bomber jackets aren’t going away anytime soon but for a seasonal update, we’re filling our wardrobes with elegantly constructed kimonos that ooze the feeling of summertime. Layers your over a pair of jeans and a tee for the perfect day-to-night look.
Transport yourself to sunnier climes with the skirt of the moment, the denim mini. While we may have been all over the midi version of this last year, we cannot get enough of the shorter style for the summer months. Already own a denim midi? Rather than purchasing a mini, get your DIY on and shorten the hemline yourself to upgrade last season’s buy into this season’s must-have.
Revel in the charm of a basket tote this season. Ideal for those last-minute “Quick, the sun is out” trips to the seaside and picnics in the park, a straw tote is 2017’s upgrade on last year’s bag about town, the bucket. Invest in one this season and you’ll find yourself breaking it out every summer to come.
Symmetry is a thing of beauty but for summer we’re championing the one-shoulder top. The collarbone is still fashion’s favourite erogenous zone but this season, be coy about showing it all off. Swap your Bardot blouses for cool, clavicle-baring tops which can be dressed up or down, and aren’t refined to just the summer months.
Shelve your sandals in favour of pool sliders this season. Prepare to fall head over heels for these as they’re not only stylish but comfortable too, making them your new go-to flats (and the perfect summer festival shoe). Opt for the athleisure-approved sporty style for daytime but then amp up the drama with embellished or fur-laden styles for the evening.
While our current wardrobe may be close to perfection we cannot say the same about all of our past fashion choices… Head over to Lovin’ Dublin to see the fashion
trends faux pas we’re happy to see the back of!
