Get ready to shift your associations beyond construction uniforms and dad trousers, as cargo pants and khaki coloured separates are back with a twist having being flung onto our summer radar as the ‘It’ colour to covet. Our denim dependables are taking a back seat while khaki takes over as the must-have staple to own this season, and we here at maven46 aren’t complaining about this refreshing update.
As seen throughout fashion week, collections and streets alike were littered with this earthy hue eminently matched with a plethora of white shirts, nautical stripes and pale coloured knits, giving us a rather casual approach to the trend. Stella McCartney, Hermés and Kenzo supported the look in wide legged versions reinforcing that the bigger the silhouette the better this season, with slimmer fits being overruled. Sies Marjan and Balmain showed us how to don the colour from head to toe with layered fabrics in the same colour spectrum creating subtle yet effective visions of how to work the tonal look.
On a whole, khaki is usually categorised into the slightly more casual sphere of dressing, however, it can serve just as well as a key formal piece this season if styled the correctly. Combine a wide leg chino with an inky blazer and a pair of new season kitten heels to bring you from desk to dusk, or if you feel like baring some skin, invest in a knotted wrap skirt. A classic trench coat can be worn over any laid-back dress to give you a sophisticated finish that will cover up and take you through any summer event. For those looking for an easy style solution, pair a khaki jumpsuit with slides or embroidered mules by day and elevate your heel by night to up the ante.
If you need more convincing then keep scrolling to see how to wear the shade of the season to its full potential.
