Athleisure fans rejoice! Good news is coming your way in the form of Alexander Wang’s new partnership with sports giant Adidas. Announced in the form of a surprise finale to his runway show during New York Fashion Week, Wang has vowed to create a new take on the classic Adidas look whilst still preserving its signature stripe.
After debuting his latest creations at the Hudson River pier last Saturday, models hurried to change into the new Adidas line while a one-and-a-half-minute film teased the crowd. 70 Adidas x Wang clad models marched down the runway donning the ‘disrupted’ black and white stripe designs. Wang said, “It was the biggest show we’ve ever done.”
The young designer is the latest addition to the brand’s growing pool of collaborators such as Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Kanye West and Stella McCartney. Wang, who is no stranger to creating urban, street style clothing, will no doubt slot nicely into this new sporty partnership.
“It was really about saying, how do we take something and disrupt it, but at the same time not change it so much it doesn’t feel right?” Wang stated about the new collection.
The unisex collection, which includes T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies as well as footwear, was made available to non-showgoers directly after his SS17 show via pop-up trucks around New York City and Brooklyn. If you missed the capsules, don’t fret. The pop-up trucks are heading to London this weekend, September 17th, and next spring the complete Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang collection will be available at Adidas Originals and Alexander Wang stores, both online and at select retailers. So keep your eyes peeled.
