The choker necklace has been the shining diamond in the jewellery box for the past two seasons and looks set to continue its crowning glory into autumn, but not without some competition from a few unexpected jewellery trends.

Ankle Grazer

Take a trip back to the past with this nostalgic trend. Ankle bracelets are making waves this summer with everyone from Lily Aldridge and Behati Prinsloo to the models at Valentino and Chloé walking the runway with embellished ankles. Perfect with a pair of cropped kick flare denims or a trending midi skirt, choose one style or layer them up for full effect.

Punk Princess

Tiaras are no longer reserved for royalty. Taking inspiration from Courtney Love circa the ’90s, the bejewelled headpiece is the new way of power dressing for summer. Make like a Saint Laurent girl and offset the delicateness with edgy streetwear clothing and grunge-fuelled bomber jackets and biker boots.

In A Hoop

Hoop earrings are seasonal staples but the size that trends changes each season. For summer, big is beautiful- think XXL. While hoops of this size have had a bad rep in the past, bringing about trashy connotations, they can look sophisticated as Céline Creative Director, Phoebe Philo proved at the SS16 show. Simply pare back the rest of your outfit, sticking to neutral tones and clean silhouettes and allow your jewellery to make the statement. If you dare to wear a shoulder-gazing pair then opt for a slimmer style- anything chunky will look tacky.

The Odd Pair

If shoulder-skimming hoops don’t quite hit the spot then this trend may be a sweeter option. Mismatched earrings drew all attention on the runway for the spring/summer season and are making quite a stand on the red carpet with Saoirse Ronan donning an odd pair at the Golden Globes. The possibilities with this are endless and you can work with earrings you already have. The more contrasting they are, the better as this is a deliberate look and not a case of blindly putting an outfit together in the dark. We love a hoop style paired with a chandelier earring to create a mix of two seasonal trends. Expect this trend to be big for the holiday season so get ahead and mix and mismatch your lobes now.
