While some might associate lace with delicate summer dresses for garden party or wedding wear, others immediately think of deep reds, navy, and black for winter styling. In reality, this fabric is one that does it all and while lace rarely goes out of style, it can look dated. However, the right lace piece can take you through the different seasons and occasions with only the need to swap and change accessories. With Central Saint Martins Graduate Han Chong’s brand Self-Portrait leading the way for lace garments this season by providing women with feminine yet contemporary takes on the fabric, lace has had a fashion forward makeover. Read on as we show you just how versatile lace really is and how to style it to ensure you are ahead of the curve.
Lace Midi Dress
Opt for a longer length lace dress as a chic alternative to the lace mini’s that we see so often in summer. A midi style will add sophistication to this delicate fabric. Worn on its own during the warmer months or paired with a leather jacket or trench this is a style that will see you through all seasons and for all occasions. Alternate between mid-heels, loafers and sandals for endless sartorial combinations.
Lace Cami Top
A lace cami paired with wide leg trousers is a no fuss yet glamorous look for evening wear. We suggest sticking to all black a lá Kendall Jenner for an evening look that will make a statement. While most of us don’t have the midriff to bare all like Kendall, replace this lace bralet with a silk cami trimmed with lace detailing- a safer, and somewhat more demure option. For day time pair a lace cami with your favourite denims and a light jacket thrown over your shoulders.
Lace Trim Detail
If you want to get in on this trend but fear lace isn’t for you, try introducing it to your wardrobe in small doses. A lace trim on a hem can elevate a garment, and lace inserts give a similar effect. While a lace skirt or dress peeking out from underneath an oversized jumper is the perfect mix of casual and dressy and proves a trusty mid-seasonal outfit for days when the weather just can’t seem to make up its mind.
