The bigger the better...

Minimal, delicate, teeny-tiny jewels are definitely a thing of the past. This season think BIG, BOLD and DARING. Designers sent an abundance of maximalist bijou sashaying down the runway, with all eyes firmly focused on glistening lobes and dynamic décolletage. No room for wallflowers here. Keep scrolling for a round up of the best statement jewels that are a must in your jewellery box over the coming months.

Oversized Lobes

Large, intricate and graphic earrings hit the catwalks in plentitude this season. Marni presented a bespoke collection which was inspired by graphic art deco designs of the ‘swinging’ Sixties, whilst Prada demonstrated some contrasting shoulder dusting sequin baubles which we predict will dazzle until Christmas and beyond.

Creeping their way back onto our radar along with slip dresses and other ’90s memorabilia, chokers are the ‘It’ accessory to sport this year. Moving on from the clinging chokers from decades past, for SS16 they’ve been updated. Taking inspiration from the much loved statement necklace, thick and chunky warrior-like versions were seen gracing the runways of Balmain and J.W. Anderson, while a more sophisticated and sculptural approach came from Dior and Elie Saab.

Statement Necklaces

Now is the chance to show the world you can wear colour despite your monochrome wardrobe. Hold off on throwing away your LBDs as this trend is sure to transform any old ensemble into an eye catching, statement look. A kaleidoscope of colours could be seen on the catwalks of Tommy Hilfiger and Derek Lam with his orange and cream tubed neck pieces whilst Valentino and Alberta Ferretti made reference to the African planes with tribal collections featuring ivory-like details and tassel trimmings.

It’s time to raid your Grandmother’s antique drawer. Brooches are back, and we can’t get enough of them. Gucci dominated the SS16 catwalks with this trend, displaying a quirky collection of satin shirts which were adorned with striking bejewelled brooches predominately in floral and ladybird shapes. Versace and Rochas followed closely behind with star studded brooches attached to the collars of the shirted collections. This trend is sure to have you looking like a royal princess in no time.
