Since Alessandro Michele took over as Creative Director of Gucci in 2015, the Italian luxury brand has had an extraordinary make-over with fashion folk going crazy for anything and everything by Gucci in the past year. Completely redefining the brand, Michele took risks that paid off, creating an eclectic and whimsical range of designs for his first collection, AW 15/16, that was unlike anything we’ve seen before from Gucci. The house saw a five percent increase in sales in the last three months of 2015 as Michele brought a new lease of life to Gucci. In the midst of this modern makeover Michele has designed a 20 piece capsule collection in collaboration with online luxury retailer Net-A-Porter and if his last two seasons are anything to go by, we expect this Gucci for Net-A-Porter collection will not stay on the online shelves for long.
The collaboration consists of ready-to-wear shoes, bags and clothing, featuring a mix of 60s/70s inspiration pieces pulled together to create a romantic and playful collection. The designer has created a custom rose print which was influenced by 19th-century tapestry and designed exclusively for the collection. The print is featured on everything from bags and accessories, to the covetable backless loafers, a pleated maxi skirt, a pussy-bow blouse and a reversible cashmere and silk cardigan. Sticking with the floral theme, the collection includes the ultimate seventies style-staple, embroidered flared jeans in a faded wash- we have a feeling these will be a big hit. Michele’s fascination with animals is ever present and in this collection he shows a sporty red neoprene sweatshirt featuring two herons and a light knit featuring a butterfly print. A unique and eclectic collection, Alessandro Michele has recreated the age-old luxury brand to represent the needs and tastes of the new Gucci woman. “These are the clothes to give you the freedom to choose who you are,” says Michele of his Net-A-Porter collaboration.
His vintage inspired collections have caught the eye of Fashion Editors around the world and fashion week street style has been overrun with his designs. Gucci loafers, GG belts, and the Dionysus appliqued shoulder bags are just some of the most popular pieces which have flooded our Instagram feeds lately, making this one collab not to missed.
The next step in reinvigorating the Italian brand was to move into digital and there is no better platform to do this than through Net-A-Porter, the top online destination for luxury goods. “Our customer cannot seem to get enough of Gucci,” says Net-A-Porter president, Alison Loehnis. “Working on the exclusive project has been a thrill and we’re incredibly excited to be launching this global first on Net-a-Porter. Alessandro has an immense talent and vision and as we’ve come to expect from him, the collection is exquisite.”
The 20 piece collection is on sale today exclusively from Net-A-Porter. Follow the links below to shop the items that we’ve got our eye on.
