At perhaps one of the best fashion weeks Milan has seen in a while, the trends were bold and eccentric, decadent and rich and we can’t wait to wear them…

A Touch of Velvet

There has always been a luxe sensibility about Italian fashion and the women who wear it. This was emphasised throughout Milan Fashion Week with the use of the most sumptuous material of all, velvet. It was seen across both New York and London Fashion Week so if there’s one trend to buy into for winter, it’s this one.

Not Your Grandmother’s Curtains

Milan has been enjoying somewhat of a fashion renaissance of late and this was shown in the antique floral prints that are vaguely reminiscent of your Grandmother’s curtains but oh so much better. The soft florals were in abundance on the catwalks in decadent jacquard, silk and chiffon. This is one for the history majors.

Take it to the Max

Last season, Milan went against the grain, fed up with the minimalist pared back aesthetic that had been in vogue for so long. Instead they shouted “More is more!” and maximalism reigned with Gucci’s Alessandro Michele at the helm. AW16 is no different with a cacophony of prints and patterns clashed together with finesse. It’s eclectic if anything else.
