The resort 2016 collections showed us a little slice of the 50s, 70s, 80s, gothic beauty, bohemia and looks worthy of rock stars, however, it also presented a collage of extremely functional pieces that can be incorporated into every day life. With most of our time spent working it is impossible to ignore the importance of formal clothing, clothing suitable for meetings, be in the office or not, and making the right impressions.
Although most collections were styled with signature trademarks and quirks, when stripped back, formal pieces were key to the new season, from shift dresses, trousers suits and co-ordinating twin sets. Take your inspiration from the eye candy styling and beautiful models but take your fashion guidance from key elements that will not only be so translatable from a high street point of view but from a wearable one too.
Skinny trousers are out and wide are in. From tuxedo style to high-waisted, stilt effects highlight the allure of a longer leg. Wear with high heels to exaggerate the leg even further and blouses tucked in for the perfect balance of formality with glamour.
Nothing quite says sophisticated like a pussy bow blouse; a borrowed staple of the ’70s, this form of blouse has had a new lease of life. Add under suit jackets, tucked inside pencil skirts and high waisted wide leg trousers for instant easy to achieve chic-dom.
The unsung hero of a clever work wardrobe. One dress can say it all in one easy but beautiful swoop.
Forget clashing or colour pairing, matchy matchy has never been so popular this season from skirts to trousers suit combinations. Another wonderfully simple styling method that doesn’t require too much thought is the reason why co-ords for workwear are game, set and match.
