What is it about sales that make you abandon all reason and opt for the snatch and grab method of shopping? All thought processes seem to jump ship and all you can see are reductions and over enthusiastic people vying for the same piece, (that if it was full price you wouldn’t even have picked it up). Yes, we all love a good bargain, who doesn’t? But, if we approached sales shopping tactically with lists in tow then we probably wouldn’t spend the next six months questioning why we bought it in the first place and giving it away to the local charity shop with the price tag still attached, making it a false economy that could have been avoided.
When the sales hit, it’s best to have some style tactics on hand to make sure you are not spending for the sake of spending, that you are in there to either pick up the pieces that you really wanted before but you couldn’t afford them, or your booked holidays are at the end of the month, so it’s the perfect time to snag some last minute holiday bargains. Or, even better you are thinking about what your wardrobe requires, what staples can I buy now to wear later? What is going to be in next season that will give me some wardrobe longevity? Is there any point in spending money on a suede fringe jacket if the ’70s are old news and the ’90s are back? These are all valid questions, and questions we will provide the answers to, so you don’t need to research.
The good news is that nothing has massively changed from this season to the next, autumn winter 2015 looks like an extension of the spring summer collections, with a few additions and a few upgraded treatments. If you did invest heavily in suede or fringing, rejoice, you are good to go for another season. The ’70s remain one of the biggest trends for winter 2015, but this time add some extra richness with patchwork detailing and the introduction of colours such as emerald green and burgundy. Fringe is still big as is the popular bucket bag so if you see a fringe bucket bag, snatch and grab! But at least you are doing it armed with valuable information.
Androgyny is another big trend for the new season with key details including double breasting, pin stripes, grey and check all very relevant, so if any of these are on sale, jump right in. Gothic is back with a bang, so velvet, lace, and ornate fabrics are going to be huge for next season so invest now and make a saving. Other winners from the last season that roll over for another include the irreplaceable trainer, culottes, pleated midi skirts and capes; capes are not only the major cover up story of the new season but combine it with a parka and you have ticked two outerwear trends in one ahead of anyone else.
Here is our edit of the best on sale right now that will carry you through the new season. It’s time to shop smart.
