We all know by now that the party season can take its toll on our bodies, and our choices throughout the last few weeks can reflect on our skin. Between excessive boozing, lack of sleep and, let’s be honest, devouring food that isn’t exactly the healthiest, skin really takes a beating during the festive season. Add in a poor skincare routine or not taking your makeup off at all and you’ve created a recipe for lacklustre dry skin, dark circles, congestion and a sprinkle of breakouts. So, if your skin is showing any of these signs then you might want to take note of some of the below tips to bring your skin back to its post-festive season glory.
Always cleanse your face! If you don’t already, now is a good time to get into double cleansing. The first cleanse removes makeup, SPF and general grime that builds up throughout the day while the second cleanse cleans deep into your pores leaving skin feeling fresh and clean. A great cleanser to start off with, especially in the winter months, is an oil-based cleanser. Oil-based cleansers have the ability to get into your pores and clear them out while also helping to balance the skin’s oil production which in turn acts as a barrier against moisture loss.
Now is the time get rid of all the dead skin cells and start afresh in 2019. Add an exfoliant into your skincare routine to wash away dead skin that can build up in your pores. Dead skin cells are what cause the skin to look dull, not to mention they prevent the rest of your skincare products from working properly as they are unable to penetrate the deeper levels of the dermis with dead skin blocking the way. Adding an exfoliant into your routine can help to clear this and leave your skin looking brighter as well as helping to reduce breakouts.
Thankfully, there is plenty you can do to bring back moisture to your skin. Firstly, you can add a hydrating serum to your skincare routine — serums containing hyaluronic acid are the best to give your skin a boost of hydration. Hydrating sheet masks are another quick fix to give your skin an instant boost. Incorporating one of these into your routine twice a week is a good way to rehydrate your skin after the festive season. Lastly, use a good moisturiser to lock in your skincare. Contrary to the name, moisturiser doesn’t add moisture to your skin, instead, it locks in the moisture already in your skin and acts as a barrier stopping any moisture from escaping.
Perk up tired eyes with soothing eye patches and nourishing eye creams, and banish dark circles and puffy eyes by treating your under eyes with some TLC. No matter what your concern is, there are plenty of lotions and potions out there to help fight whatever your issue is, from brightening dark circles to calming puffiness.
Bring the glow back to your skin with a Vitamin C serum. Packed full of potent antioxidants, Vitamin C, when applied topically via a serum, leaves skin looking noticeably brighter and more radiant. This hero ingredient is perfect for injecting a bit of life back into your skin post festive season.
