We all know the importance of a good broad spectrum SPF all year round, especially in the summer, but you could go one step better by including a potent antioxidant like Vitamin C in your morning routine as well which will not only help brighten your skin but also fight harmful free radicals too. You can do this by using a Vitamin C serum every morning before your dedicated SPF, or simply use the likes of Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Photo-Brightening Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF30 which has the best of both worlds combined.
Now that you have your face sorted, next on the list is a good sunscreen for your body. If you’re anything like me and suffer from sensitive skin and often sun allergies, this is no easy feat. Thankfully, Cloud10 Beauty has come to the rescue and is now stocking the renowned Ultrasun range. Ultrasun sunscreens are made with sensitive skin in mind and are free from fragrance, emulsifiers and preservatives. Their mineral sunscreen range, in particular, works extremely well for very sensitive skins and can even help the sun-sensitive avoid the dreaded prickly heat rash that can often accompany sun exposure.

Just like your skin, overexposure to the sun can damage your hair too. This is where the new Kérastase SOLEIL range comes in. The range consists of specific routines for before, during, and after sun exposure, with key high-powered ingredients such as coconut water, Vitamin E, and UV filters to give your hair the best protection possible. Another great all-rounder is the Luna by Lisa Miracle Hair Treatment Spray by Irish blogger and entrepreneur, Lisa Jordan — just ask anyone that has tried it! This leave-in spray provides a multitude of benefits including UVA and UVB protection — perfect for holidays.
Even with the best of intentions and reapplications of SPF, sometimes sunburn seems inevitable. However, even if you haven’t gotten burnt (go you!), sun exposure can dry out your skin so applying a nourishing aftersun is key to soft healthy skin. I love the Bioderma Photoderm Refreshing After Sun Milk as it’s gentle and refreshing on tender skin and works at cooling and soothing any irritation while deeply moisturising skin. For any fellow fair skinned ladies out there, the Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun Hydrating Tan Maintainer is fantastic not only at cooling and moisturising but it also adds a small hint of gradual tan to give you a slight glow and a well-needed boost of confidence when walking out in your swimsuit!

Does the thought of going completely bared-faced make you squirm? You’re not alone. The simplest of actions such as framing your face with great brows and eyelashes can make a world of difference. If you haven’t been lucky enough to get to the beauticians beforehand to do the work for you, or in my case for my favourite ‘lash lift‘, then don’t worry, we’ve got some poolside beauty must-haves to help.
A waterproof brow pen is a great tool to have a hand, such as the Stila Stay All Day Brow Colour Marker. The precise tip and waterproof formula will have your brows Insta-worthy all day long for some poolside glamour. If you happen to be making a last minute dash to Penneys for holiday bits (who doesn’t?) then check out the new Misslyn makeup stand in Penneys for the ‘Brow Chicka Wow Wow‘ marker for an inexpensive equivalent. Likewise, eyelashes have a huge effect on lifting your face. For the ultimate waterproof mascara, try Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara for a smudge-free flutter.
If you still feel the need to add a tint to your face, try Shiseido’s Wetforce BB Cream SPF50+ for unmoveable, sweatproof and waterproof coverage. Compared to other lightweight BB creams, this one has a nice medium coverage to give you that added boost without having to worry about it sliding off in the pool.
