We’re always on the hunt for new and innovative beauty products that can help make our morning routines, and lives easier, and it looks like Bourjois has achieved this with their latest launch. Introducing the ‘Foundcealer’, a clever new foundation-meets-concealer stick which is a new multi-tasking beauty buy that’s sure to become your new handbag essential.

Gone are the days when foundation sticks were notoriously dry and cakey; the Foundcealer blends easily like a foundation but also offers the high coverage you expect from a concealer — plus, it comes with a convenient blender so you have everything you need in one compact, not to mention sleek and pretty package. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, this stick will conceal, even out your complexion for the perfect base and contour all in a flash. Want to know all the deets of how to use? Let’s get down to it with Bourjois beauty pros, Jodie Wood and Lauren Arthurs, for some inspiration, plus our own team’s top tips.

The Steps

1 | Conceal

As much as we’d all love ‘flawless’ skin, very few of us are born with it, so concealer is often our best friend when it comes to our beauty regimes. The Foundcealer stick is slanted for ease of use and precise application which means it can target and cover those pesky spots in one quick swipe. If you suffer from redness around the nose, as most of us do, I’ve found the angled top really comes in useful here — just swipe the top edge around the crevasses of your nose and use the attached blender to smooth into the skin. With its high coverage, it works best to hide spots and cover any marks or pigmentation.

2 | Perfect Your Base

This is where the applicator really shines. It’s so quick and easy to apply: just swipe across your face like you’re painting a canvas — it’s surprisingly satisfying! You can use the mini-sponge applicator to blend targeted areas, however, for a full face, I suggest using a damp beauty blender or similar for best results. This way, the sponge helps to melt the formula into the skin for a natural, dewy look. The stick applicator is also fantastic for a more targeted approach if you don’t need, or like, to wear a lot of foundation — just swipe where you need and blend out.

For a high coverage stick, the formula feels surprisingly lightweight and can easily be blended to suit your coverage preferences. It’s super blendable with a dewy finish which works particularly well on normal to dry skins and older skin types. I have oily/combination skin and I need to powder from time to time, but its long-wear claims still hold true. In terms of shade matching, more often than not, no matter the foundation brand, I use one of the lightest, if not the lightest shade. In Foundcealer, I have been using the Ivory Rose shade which matched my distinctly pale Irish skin perfectly but don’t be fooled by its name; it’s not overly pink and is more of a neutral in my experience.

3 | Define Your Face

Adding to its already impressive multi-use abilities, the precision of its applicator and angled stick means not only can you use it as a concealer and foundation, but it can also be used to contour. Depending on your skin tone, I recommend choosing a second shade akin to your preferred bronzer, but the darkest shade ‘Chocolate’ should work well for most skins. Simply swipe the stick under your cheekbones, along the hairline and temples, and under your jaw to contour.

Blend well with the sponge applicator until you can no longer see any noticeable lines and are left with a subtle definition for a sculpted effect. The small size of the sponge works really well here for precision blending. If you are lucky enough to be a darker skin tone than me, you can use a lighter shade along the top of your cheekbones for a subtle highlight too. The advantage of using the same formula for both your foundation and contour means you know it will blend well together and not move your meticulously applied foundation as other cream contours can.

4 | On The Go Touch-Ups

Should you need touch-ups, the Foundcealer works a treat. The packaging is portable and perfect for your handbag so you don’t have to worry about messing with liquids on-the-go at the risk of spilling. This layers perfectly for touch-ups even after powdering, thanks to the jojoba oil in the formula. Swipe or dab the product where needed, flip to the sponge side and blend for a quick fix. Even if you haven’t used the Foundcealer as your base that day, this stick is still a great product to have in your handbag for touch-ups. Plus, it’s premium black and rose gold packaging looks great, so it’s one handbag essential you’ll want to show off.
