Hollywood’s A-list pulled out all the stops for Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards at the historic Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. From Lady Gaga’s periwinkle blue Valentino gown and Saoirse Ronan’s Gucci dress to Julia Robert’s Stella McCartney jumpsuit, the red carpet fashion was just the half of it.

We’re taking a look at some of our favourite makeup looks that complemented the outfits of Lancôme ambassadors Julia Roberts, Penélope Cruz and Lupita Nyong’o, and sharing how the stars prepped for the big night. Most importantly, we have their makeup artists’ tips and tricks plus what products they used to create each look on the night so you too can get the look at home.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita’s cool electric blue lashes and liner paired with a ruby red lip was a fun and playful look to match her equally playful Calvin Klein dress. Her makeup artist Nick Barose wanted her makeup to “feel fun and be a modern take on the ‘80s with contrasting colours on eyes and lips”. Barose achieved Lupita’s look by “placing three to four coloured lashes on the outer corners and enhancing them with a colour top coat mascara and blue eyeliner”. To avoid going overboard with colour, he opted for a small dose of electric blue rather than sweeping all across the eyelid.

Penélope Cruz

Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury wanted to encapsulate Penélope Cruz’s signature Dolce Vita style as well as complementing her stunning Ralph & Russo dress. When talking about Penélope’s makeup look, Tilbury said she “wanted to create a beautiful, flawless, poreless, glowing magic complexion with a divine peachy, bronzey-golden molten smokey eye, an elongating deep brown feline flick, and her trademark pillowy-pink hot lip”.

Julia Roberts

Inspired by Julia’s masculine come feminine dress and trouser combo by Stella McCartney, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey wanted to emulate the strong and pretty vibes with a beauty look that matched. To do so, Dempsey created a natural look that featured glowing skin, a soft pink lip and jet black liner.
