We all know the importance of taking care of our skin; we spend a fortune on various different skincare products to help keep our complexions clear and hydrated, however, we often forget that the best way to nourish the skin is to start from within. Just like the rest of our organs, our skin needs vital vitamins to function properly. Our bodies need vitamins to help with production, maintenance and repair. But where to start? These are five of the most important vitamins your skin needs in order to maintain all-round healthy skin.
One of the most important vitamins the skin needs is vitamin D, which you get directly from sunlight. However, those of us that live in the northern hemisphere often don’t get enough natural vitamin D so we need to take it orally. Vitamin D is like a wonder vitamin for the skin, it actively helps minimise breakouts, boosts elasticity and firmness in the skin, stimulates collagen production, enhances radiance, and lessen lines and the appearance of dark spots.
Vitamin C helps the body create collagen, which is a type of connective tissue that keeps your skin firm, aiding in the prevention of sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Taking Vitamin C orally can also help increase the effectiveness of sunscreen, therefore, helping protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
Known for being a vitamin that gives you beautiful skin, vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps improve the appearance of scars, dark spots and imperfections. It also aids in the prevention of premature ageing and wrinkles by helping protect your skin from sun damage.
There are various different types of Vitamin B that contribute to healthy skin. Some essentials are B3 known as Niacin which is essential for healthy skin by helping manage an even skin tone and breakouts. B3 helps reduce the appearance of aged skin, reduces redness and gives your skin an all-round brighter glow. B5 is a vitamin that aids the skin in naturally retaining moisture; it helps prevent water loss by improving your skins outer barrier, therefore, keeping your skin hydrated and preventing dry and flaky skin. Taking Vitamin B complex is a great way to ensure that you are getting all the vital areas of Vitamin B. Deficiencies in Vitamin B can cause dry and brittle hair and nails and cause skin issues.
That last vital vitamin is K. Vitamin K aids with the process of blood clotting, which helps your skin heal from within. It also eliminates certain skin conditions like spider veins and scarring. Taking Vitman K supplements can also help to minimise those pesky dark undereye bags we try so hard to conceal as well as banishing dark spots on your skin.
