Recently, I was invited by the lovely ladies in Burgundy Beauty, Blackrock, to test out the latest treatment taking the beauty world by storm, known as LVL lashes. After just opening a second salon in Blackrock, and having won ‘Best Beauty Salon’ and ‘Best Beauty Therapist’ at the Image Business of Beauty Awards 2017, I was looking forward to visiting the award-winning salon. Considering the amount of buzz surrounding the treatment, I couldn’t wait to see what all the fuss was about.
The first thing to note is that I have THE straightest eyelashes you can possibly imagine. So much so that they actually dip downwards instead of up, which you will see from the pictures below, so the thoughts of throwing my eyelash curler away for a few weeks was too much to resist!
I believe eyelashes have the greatest effect on a person’s face, they can completely lift and wake up your entire complexion. Even on no makeup days I will still curl my eyelashes and add a slick of mascara to help counteract that ‘I’ve just had a nap face’ (you’ll see what I mean from the ‘before’ photo). So, for someone so obsessed with eyelashes, I have no idea how I’ve made it so long without trying a single lash treatment, not even a tint. However, when I heard about the lifting and lengthening abilities of LVL lashes I was intrigued. Could they actually fix my stubbornly straight lashes? Hint: Yes! Keep reading to find out more…
Before I get into my experience, here’s what LVL actually involves. According to my wonderful therapist, Jamie, “LVL (which stands for length, volume, lift) lashes is a perm of your own natural lashes, starting at the root which gives your lashes a lift. It’s a one hour treatment but can be relaxing as people tend to zone out of everything and unwind. The results are immediate and last up to 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks depending, and little maintenance is required which everyone loves!”
As I settled into the plush treatment room, I knew Jamie had her work cut out for her but I lay back, closed my eyes with high hopes, and relaxed for the next hour.
After cleansing my eyes, Jamie attached the shields on my eyelids and eye pads over my bottom lashes. My lashes were then pulled back and bonded to the upper shield for the duration of the treatment. From here, Jamie added a series of serums, the lifting balm for 10-12 minutes, the volumising serum for 5-6 minutes and finally the tint for 2-4 minutes. When the tint was removed, she applied a moisturising serum to help nourish my lashes. Jamie also gave me a clean mascara wand to brush my lashes up at any chance I got for the rest of the day to really help set them in place.
The only thing you need to make sure of is to keep away from water for the first 24 hours but other than that you’re good to go! They also recommend to use the Nova Lash Conditioning Serum after the treatment to keep your lashes in the best condition, however, I didn’t but if I was getting this done repeatedly I would invest in the product to help keep my lashes in the best condition.
Like I said, I’ve never even gotten as much as a tint on my eyelashes so I was a little apprehensive about LVL lashes particularly because I tend to have very sensitive eyes. I had nothing to worry about. Jamie was a pro and put me at complete ease and explained each step as she went along. The treatment itself was surprisingly relaxing, with the only exception being the tint at the very end which was slightly stingy but nothing too painful. Any discomfort vanished once it had been removed. Anyone that has had an eyelash tint before would be accustomed to the feeling, I’m sure.
When I finally opened my eyes, I couldn’t believe the difference! I actually thought she had put mascara on without me noticing, they were that long and black. You only need to look at the before and after pictures to see what I mean; you can’t deny the enhancement. The nourishing serum applied at the end gave them that wet mascara look you see in the second photo, however, by the next day when that had dried I was even more in love. They were light, full, and fluffy like I was wearing the most natural set of false lashes. I never thought I’d go a day without mascara but for the next week, I didn’t even touch the tube. As I became more accustomed to the new lengthy appearance of my lashes, I started to add a thin coat of mascara to really exaggerate them.
Now nearly three weeks on, I still haven’t had to use my beloved eyelash curlers which I’m amazed by! I do think my eyelashes have dropped slightly compared to the first day, however, on closer inspection, I can see that my eyelashes are growing out so the curled section is no longer at the base of the lash, meaning the lift won’t be as intense. But as you can see from the third image, they are looking pretty good if I do say so myself! I’m confident that they will continue to last for the five weeks, if not longer.
I’m hooked. I think this is the ultimate treatment for anyone with straight eyelashes like mine and it would be the perfect treatment to get done especially before a sun holiday. They give you that extra bit of confidence you might need when not wearing makeup, so along with finding the perfect swimsuit, LVL lashes will be top of my list for my next holiday. Lash extensions seem to be the popular choice for special events and holidays, and while they can look fantastic, LVL would still be my treatment of choice. There is less maintenance involved, less chance of damage to your natural lashes and no need for removal afterwards. I would highly recommend the treatment, especially from the team at Burgundy Beauty. Not only was the staff friendly and highly trained, the salon itself is beautiful. The pedicure area, in particular, looked so luxurious and inviting, just looking at it I wanted to hop up and sink into the cosy chairs for a pedicure. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre then Burgundy Beauty is one to try.
