If you were to ask a group of women what their best beauty buys would be you can guarantee that dry shampoo would trump top of the list, I mean who could argue?  Its ability to transform bad hair days into a style that is acceptable to leave the house with, is reason enough for us to place our trust in this super product.  We caught up with Peter Mark stylist and educator, John Harvey to get some insight into the tricks and the trades of using dry shampoo.

When you want to get the most out of the product, you need to establish what you would deem most important “if you are looking something that just absorbs your natural oils and gives you amazing day hair, then Redken’s Pillow Proof two day extender is a great product to work with.” If you are noticing that your hair is a bit flat after your wash and blow dry using “Redken’s Powder Grip is great for adding texture and volume.” Either way choosing the correct product is key to getting the most out of your dry shampoo.

Like using shampoo or any styling product, it is important to know how to use it correctly so that you are gaining optimum benefits. “Spray the product at least 6 inches away to avoid the dreaded white powder effect.  After your dry shampoo has settled, you can then blend it in with the rest of your hair using your fingers or a brush,” then continue to style your preferred look.  If you are creating an up style “spray into the hair to prevent pins and grips from slipping out of your hair.”

Generally, lighter coloured hair disguises the remnants better than those with a darker colouring, but that shouldn’t stop you from using the product. “As for those clients who have darker hair and concerned about the residue showing up, they can use L’Oréal root touch up which comes in 5 shades including a dark brown and black version.”
