With autumn finally here it’s time to take a look at some serious beauty inspiration to get you beauty ready for the new season. It’s time to switch your fuchsia and pastel pallets for icy and warm undertones. The catwalks didn’t fail to impress as there were trends that catered for all during the AW16 shows, with emphasis on individuality. From Glitter Babe to Gothic feels, boundaries were pushed for autumn/winter. We’ve broken down the highlights of these trends to inspire you to design your own beauty look this season.
If there’s one product you need to invest in this season it’s glitter! Holographic sparkles were seen everywhere on the AW16 catwalks from Burberry to Valentino, Markus Lupfer to Giambattista Valli. Continuing on from the popular summer festival look and transitioning into the cooler seasons, for autumn, there’s more of a minimalistic feel. To get the look, ensure the glitter is focal, keeping the rest of the face fairly neutral with a light foundation or BB cream.
A dark lip is emblematic of autumn/winter and this year is no exception. Dior and Gareth Pugh embraced the inner Goth with a fanciful twist of dewy skin, thick spider-esque lashes and full, defined cheeks with a deep pout. Deep hues of plum and red in both hi-gloss and matte finishes were worn in numerous ways across the catwalks including Louis Vuitton where the models embraced the rock chick look with slicked back hair and glossy pouts. To get the look, team a deep plum lipstick with bare eyes and lashings of mascara to avoid that retro look. And if one thing’s for sure about autumn/winter it is not about looking perfect as we witnessed a mixture of smudged dark lips to structured angled lips, as well as lips with a softer edge so don’t fret about being perfect.
Think ‘skin deep’ this fall- it’s not about creating a perfected ‘second’ skin, it’s about working with less product to boost your natural glow. Both Gucci and Balmain showcased beautiful barely there makeup with rosy hues to define the cheekbones which created a natural, organic beauty look that we all can replicate.
The ‘morning after’ eye was popular amongst makeup artists, giving the glamorous smokey eye a grungy edge. The sultry smudged eyes were coupled with nude lips and natural brows creating a captivating, seductive eye that isn’t for the perfectionist. Grab your favourite kohl liner like Chanel Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner and smudge it inside your bottom waterline for that lived in look. Think of the ultimate party girl, Kate Moss for some major eye makeup inspiration this winter.
There’s no denying that this season is all about having fun with your looks and embracing individuality. As we start to see a shift in the way models are sent down the catwalk – with most makeup artists applying individual looks that tailor to each model and their facial features as opposed to creating a one-fits-all look – a positive message is conveyed that we should embrace our features and celebrate individuality. Looking ‘perfect’ can be left behind with contouring.
