There’s a care-free feel to a lot of the hair trends on the runway right now, from twists and knots at shows like Valentino and Giles to ultra long plaits at Gucci and soft sweeping braids at Hervé Léger. The look at Alberta Ferretti was similarly relaxed, although the addition of gilded adornments gave a more grown up feel as did the fresh, floral headpieces that were seen at Diane Von Furstenberg’s SS16 show.

Whether you’re creating big, bouncy waves or more intricate, knotted up styles the key word for this season is definitely texture, and while some might be blessed naturally with it in their hair, many of us are not. So here’s your quick guide to some products that will help to give your hair some bounce, grip and texture.

Hair Primer

A primer for your hair? Yep! This magical cream by Redken protects against heat damage from styling tools like hair dryers and straighteners and also preps your hair so that it will behave better when you go to work it into its final style too!

Redken Pillow Proof Primer is available to buy here.

Thickening Spray

Some thickening sprays can leave your hair feeling a little crunchy which is why I love this one from L’Oréal. All you can expect is bigger, bouncer hair that doesn’t feel like there’s anything in it at all. Spritz the roots while you hair is damp and then blow dry.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is such a versatile product but my one gripe with the cheaper varieties is that they can leave a white residue in your hair. This one by Shu Uemura is a little special as it not only helps to give grip and hold to hair, add texture and of course, make it feel clean too, but it also adds moisture to the lengths and ends to condition colour treated hair.

Shu Uemura Colour Lustre Dry Cleaner is available to buy here.

Hair Powder

Often copied but never really quite bettered, Schwarzkopf’s OSiS powder gives hair instant texture and hold whether you’re creating braids, backcombing or simply want to give you look a little edge. For best results, tap a small amount onto roots and then gently work into the hair.

Setting Spray

More than just a setting spray, this firm hold hair spray from Kérastase gives you the chance to mold your hair into place before it sets the style meaning those little fly aways? Gone. It also smells gorgeous to boot!
